Geoff Allnutt, known as the Speech Painter.
The Speech Painter is fabulous. Apart from being a stand-up artist, Geoff runs the watch repair shop in Midhurst. His range is strangely comic to deadly serious and he 'pushes poetry over the edge'. He's performed at Ronnie Scotts, Dingwalls, the 100 club, Chats Palace, on BBC TV and lots more all over London and the rest of the UK. Reviews: "A welcome cure for the aural anaemia of our times" - THE INDEPENDENT "a mean line in Glastonbury-gangsta rap" - SELECT "good cynical jokes" - THE TELEGRAPH For more information, and to see more of his work, visit The Speech Painter's website. |

Liz Bentley began performing on stage as a Brownie Guide in Ralph Reader Gang Shows in and around Southend-on-Sea in Essex. She left the world of performing to play in psychedelic bands and to travel and work at Gumbi Records. After training and working as a therapist for some years and starting a family, Liz took up novel writing. After rejection upon rejection, a literary agent suggested her book would work better as short stories. Her partner suggested she take a story and read it at an open-mic event. That week, she found such an event in Deptford, read out a story and people laughed — a lot. Liz was booked for a paid gig two weeks later and so on. Five years on, she has performed with rave reviews at the Ledbury Poetry Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2004 with Rachel Pantechnicon and 2007 solo show "I've Only Got Myself to Blame"), Birmingham, Reading and Brighton comedy festivals .... to name but a few. She has become a favourite at cabaret events such as Finger in the Pie at Madame Jo Jo's and has been commissioned by Sundown Poets, Southend-on-Sea to write and perform at events sponsored by the Arts Council. She has programmed and co-produced events for Steam Control and Steam Pressed Poetry at RADA and Peckham library. Using her work experience and personal history of mental health and having multiple sclerosis, Liz has had the pleasure of tailoring sets and performing at Bonkersfest, Mad Pride, Liberty disability festival and BBC Ouch podcast. She has also performed at therapy conferences e.g. Association of University and College Counsellors and Southwark Mind. Liz is now working on her new book and 2008 Edinburgh show. Awards include Short Fuse's Poetry Idol and she is the only ever winner of Poetry Idol - The Rivals. “Like a female Ivor Cutler” The Scotsman “Definitely one of my Fringe highlights” Three Weeks ***** For more information, visit Liz Bentley's website. |

"Rachel Pantechnicon She has performed at Ledbury Poetry Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Glastonbury, Latitude, Chats Palace and numerous other poetry/cabarets in London and the UK. See details of Rachel and her poetry at: http://www.rachelpantechnicon.com Reviews: "A young woman in heels, classic skirt and blouse, blue bow tucked in ash blonde hair, pink heart shaped purse hanging across her side, awkwardly walks to the stage. She's in a world of her own. The room goes silent as she looks around. It doesn't take long before the room is full of laughter and joy as she shares stories about Harold, her cat. How he was in a box which was accidentally switched with a similar one with a jug-eared cup in it. She talks of all the elves on her shelves in her kitchen. She's obsessive, '1,2,3..must read poem' she mumbles to herself. Her material is 'off the wall', highly imaginative, full of a childlike quality, and she has won over the entire audience who can't stop laughing. She pulls out props including children's books she's written and each has a hilarious story. Is she a poet, a comic? Who cares. She has transformed the room to hysterics." - Petersfield Herald "Either from in the audience or from the wings (as it were)) she makes me so very happy - you're in for a treat, as is anyone in the audience who hasn't seen her before." - Comedian and Performance Poet AF Harrold "Technicolour suburban entertainment" - John Hegley "I was weeing myself" - Sue Perkins, at the Old Vic, Jan 2005 "Rachel Pantechnicon of London was my favorite performer that I saw on the whole tour. Pure creative genius." - Buddy Wakefield, US Poetry Slam Champion, December 2004 |
